RECORDING DATA

RETRIEVING NEW MATCHES – 135 APP

  • Open the 135 App on your iOS or Android device. Once signed in, go to the Matches screen by tapping the burger menu, then Matches.
  • Tap the Refresh icon at top right. The App will search for new matches that have been loaded for you to analyse.

RETRIEVING NEW MATCHES – 135 ANALYZER

  • Click on the “Tag Matches” menu item inside the Analyzer.
  • Click the icon next to the match you just selected in the App. The match footage will appear.

FINALIZING THE SET-UP

After tapping on the match inside the 135 App, you will be asked to select the player serving first from a drop-down box. The only other selection you need to make is to switch the “Record Serve Location” button to ON.

DO NOT USE THE “Setup Remote Match” button, nor the “Video Recording” button.

Then tap “Start Match”

RECORDING ANALYTICS

You should now have your computer screen and your phone screen looking like this. The computer screen is where the time stamping of the match occurs. The phone screen is where data is recorded.

Click either of the play icons in the video, or simply click the picture for the match video to start. Depending on when the camera was placed on the fence, some of the warm-up footage may still be at the start of the video.

Use the Analyzer for time stamping each point:

  • When the Server starts bouncing the ball before they serve, click “START POINT” at bottom left.
  • When the point ends, click “END POINT”
  • The video will automatically pause so that data can be loaded in the App. At the same time a point will appear in the right hand pane of the Analyser with the start and stop time of the point.

In the App, record data using the following guidelines:

  • Every unreturned 1st serve is a 1 (Lightning Bolt).
  • Almost every unreturned 2nd serve is a 2 (error on return). Exception: A 2nd serve sent down as hard as a 1st. These are very rare.
  • Any time a player approaches the net and a passing shot is missed, credit the player who approached the net IF the passing shot was attempted from behind/on the baseline.
  • You will need to count the number of shots up to 6. To record serve location, it’s easier to remember if you count shots and repeat the serve location afterwards eg “1 wide, 2 wide, 3 wide, 4 wide etc”
  • If in doubt about whether something is forced or unforced, give the benefit of any doubt in favour of FORCED. Remember that we consider a forced error to be very much the same as a winner, so credit the player who forced the error!
  • Be harsh on errors made by the server on shots 3 and 5.
  • Count half volleys as volleys, NOT groundstrokes.
  • Maintain score integrity. If the players get the score wrong, use the + buttons beside the score to advance the score and record a rally length of “unknown”.
  • Some of the matches we record are “no let” scoring. Others the “let” is played again. There is no need to record anything. If there’s a let and the serve is replayed, record nothing and wait for the next serve. If it’s “no let”, record the point as normal.

THE CUSTOM STATS SCREEN

Custom Stats is where we record data such as whether the final shot was “cross court”, “down the line” etc. Custom stats are recorded by tapping the pencil icon at the top left of screen in the app. You can record multiple custom stats for the one point.

Some definitions:

  • Forehand cross – forehand played from the forehand side of the court. Ball trajectory is to the left for a RH.

Forehand line – forehand played from the forehand side of the court that is headed for the right hand side of the court (right of centre) on the other side.

Forehand Inside Out – forehand played from the backhand side of the court with ball trajectory heading right. Both feet of the player need to be to the left of the centre mark (right hander), otherwise it’s down the line.

Forehand Inside In – same position on the court as for Inside Out but the ball is played to the left hand side of the court.

Backhand Cross – same as forehand cross but from the other side

Backhand Line – same as forehand line but from the other side

IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE OR MISS SOMETHING

If you miss something, or lose count of the shots, get to the end of the point first and click “END POINT”.

  • To replay the point in the Analyser, click the REPLAY button at the top right of the screen.
  • To delete a point, click the “trash” button next to that. Note, you can only trash the last point recorded. To trash multiple points, keep clicking trash.

NOTE: The number of points recorded in the Analyser MUST match the number of points recorded in the App. The point number can be found at the top right of the Analyser screen. To match this with the App, click on the Graph icon at top right, then look at the “Point Count”. Adding the “Point Count” of each player should match the number of points in the Analyser.

This should be checked every time the players change ends. Upon confirming the data is correct, click SAVE at bottom right. Saving your time stamping will mean you can come back to it later. The App automatically saves as you record.

The following relate to the images below:

  • If you make a mistake in the App, tap the Undo button located next to “Points”.
  • If you don’t know happened, or the players have skipped a point, use the “Add Point” button to make sure you maintain score integrity.
  • The “Change Server” button only appears at the start of a set and during tiebreakers. Junior players frequently get this wrong. If players make a mistake regarding the server at any other time, abort the match and report the issue.
  • The record custom stats is the pencil icon. The only ones you will be using to start are cross court, down line, inside in and inside out.

AT THE END OF THE MATCH

The App will recognise that a match is over with a prompt.

  • Tap OK, then click the upload button at top right.

In the Analyser:

  • Click CLOSE and then click “YES” when asked if the match is complete.
